It’s strange to think there are angels out there somewhere. The Bible references angels over 100 times. In Revelation John writes, there are thousands upon thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand angels encircling the throne. That’s at least 100 million angels.
I often ask God to put angels around my loved ones to protect them especially when they’re driving.
We’re also encouraged to show hospitality to strangers. We never know when those strangers might be angels in disguise.
I’ve heard stories from people who’ve thought they met an angel. A stranger came out of nowhere and helped them or gave them a word of encouragement when they needed it most. A friend of mine has this amazing story of how she saw an angel on the freeway when another car drove through the front of her vehicle without impact.
On an occasion or two, I’ve wondered if the person who helped me, corrected me, or walked with me down a dark street was an angel, but I never had the gumption to ask.
I can’t explain what angels are, if they’re physical or mostly spiritual, or how to recognize one. However, I can say there’s a strong likelihood there are angels about us even now.
Science scoffs at this. If angels can’t be measured, weighed, and proven, then they don’t exist. But science once thought the world was flat, and the sun revolved around us. (This is not the only thing that science was misjudged about). So, just because we can’t prove angels exist, doesn’t mean they’re not real.
The existence of angels highlights even more the powerful love of our almighty God and savior. We’re not alone in this world. God sends his angels to help us. They fight battles we might never hear about. They give us warnings and guidance. They glorify God.
Some people say when we die we become angels, but I don’t see that in the Bible. Angels appear to differ greatly from us, and it seems like they’ve been around a lot longer than humanity.
One thing seems certain, angels serve God. They worship Him. And it’s comforting that they’re out there somewhere, following God, working for Him.
Take a few minutes and read over these verses in Psalms about angels. Reflect and thank God for His incredible power and love to humankind. May our awareness of the spiritual world grow, and may we glorify Him like the angels do.
