25 Psalms For Kids To Learn And Memorize

What if we could give our children a secret weapon to fight off worry and discouragement? If there were a way to help our kids be strong, have courage, and trust love, wouldn’t we want to do it?

Raising kids is hard. They don’t come with a lot of instructions, and each one can be drastically different from the other.

Just when you figure out how to soothe a boo-boo for one, the other pushes your hand away and demands to put the band aid on without help. They refuse to eat their broccoli. Can’t seem to pick up their toys and sabotage any effort at a good night’s sleep.

And yet, we love them and want the very best for them always.

Our hearts hurt when they hurt, and we scream for joy when they score a basket or land a jump. We’d do anything for them.

The very best thing we can do for our children is to introduce them to God.

They will hear all kinds of things as they grow up, and most of those things will have nothing to do with Jesus. It’s our job as parents to ensure our children learn to think through matters of faith, ask questions, and see what following Jesus looks like.

The choice to follow Him must be their own, but we can help.

My kids believed in Jesus at a young age. They both heard Bible stories and went to church, but it was at home, on their bed, asking questions, they came to make the decision to give their life to God.

Our lives and love help our kids see who God is and soften the ground for them to trust Him with their hearts. But there’s still more we can do.

One important facet to training our kids and preparing them for the future is to encourage them to memorize scripture. God’s word is living and active, and it’s a sword to defend against the lies in the world.

In times of discouragement, the Bible directs our attention to God and hope. When we’ve failed and lost our way, God’s word speaks to our broken hearts and leads us home. Memorizing the Psalms can be especially encouraging during times of trouble. When we don’t have the words, the Psalms speak for our hearts.

Scripture memorization is like the fire drills we had while we were in school. When we’re doing them, they don’t seem all that important. It’s something we’ve heard before. But when there’s a fire, our feet remember and move us to safety. Committing scripture passages to memory can help us safely through the fires of life. When we’re struggling and sad, those verses will be there to comfort and guide.

And that’s the special weapon we can give our kids as they face the struggles of life.

Read through the following list of Psalms which have been especially chosen to encourage your children in memorization. God wants us to hide His word in our hearts. Make memorization a priority today.
